Their subsequent album was named Book Early. single reached the Top 10 of the UK Singles Chart, achieving also a silver award for 200,000 copies sold, although the album failed to scratch the UK Albums Chart. The single also made the top 30 in the . Their next album, 1979's The Day the Earth Caught Fire, produced a minor UK hit with the title song. This album marked an early recording appearance by Huey Lewis, who played harmonica on the second track "It's Only the End of the World". Afterwards, Broughton and Dunn (two of the original members) left the band, and City Boy released Heads Are Rolling as a quartet in 1980.

The Day the Earth Caught Fire is a British science fiction disaster film starring Edward Judd, Leo McKern and Janet Munro. It was directed by Val Guest and released in 1961, and is one of the classic apocalyptic films of its era. The film opened at the Odeon Marble Arch in London on 23 November 1961. The film, which was partly made on location in London and Brighton, used matte painting to create images of abandoned cities and desolate landscapes.

Album by City Boy. It's Only the End of the World.

City Boy reached the pinnacle of their vocals/harmonies with this album. After finding this gem, my friends and I scoured cut-out bins and amassed the whole catalog. The other albums such as Young Men Gone West, Book Early, Dinner at the Ritz, Heads are Rolling are good, but tend to be a bit quirkie and the earlier stuff is sometimes comical (. 1979 was the year when City Boy would return to their Art Rock ambitions and release their most accomplished album yet! The Day The Earth Caught Fire was both heavier and tighter than the two previous releases.

City Boy formed in the 70's, in an era where Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Rush or Deep Purple were dominating the scene. This English natives in spite of having one or two hits, are unknown to the general public of rock fans. The Day the Earth Caught Fire is a great example of that bad-timing, it's an impressive progressive rock album with some "poppish" tunes here and there. It mixes superbly elements of progressive, melodic, pop and rock music with impressive vocals and heavy guitar compositions. Like I said above in business timing is everything and this album wasn't.
