Steven Lugerner did a phenomenal job of channeling Mr McLean's sound. Love horn players and Steve does it so well playing alto saxophone with JJ Kirkpatrick on trumpet. Piano, bass and drums are all excellent and round out the sound. Vyacheslav Potapov (VP).

Jackie McLean, also referred to as The New Tradition and Jackie McLean Quintet, is the debut album by American saxophonist Jackie McLean, which was recorded in 1955, becoming the first LP released by the Ad Lib label before being reissued on the Jubilee label in 1958

JACKIE MCLEAN is a post bop, soul jazz, avant-garde jazz hard bop music artist.

Recorded in 1964, Jackie McLean's band for It's Time includes trumpeter Charles Tolliver, pianist Herbie Hancock, bassist Cecil McBee, and drummer Roy Haynes. The music was written entirely by either Tolliver or McLean and walks the line between modal post-bop and free jazz. It came hot on the heels of McLean's first forays into these waters on 1963's One Step Beyond and Destination Out!. There is more to it than that, of course; chordal improvisation still plays a large part in the music on this fine record  . Tolliver's solo in the cut is his best on the album.
