one of my favorite albums of a lifetime. I found it in the extinct store DEL SUR in Madrid. They had reviewed it in the Rock de lux of Spain and in 1999 I had the fortune to buy it. Since then, I hope that one day Anders Bersten will upload all the discography of Dot Records to digital platforms such as Spotify or iTunes. The original idea of this compilation to make a massive remix is great.
In retrospect, this album was an idea whose time had come past due. So fittingly 90's, and indeed fittingly Dot, a label that strongly featured artist remixes of orginal tracks as B-sides: remixes of remixes of remixes. The a-list of remixers is deep and well-selected: Kirk Degiorgio, Ian O'Brien, Bedouin Ascent, Nonplace Urban Field, Jimpster are but a few. Dot's own roster has a few missteps, but acquits itself quite credibly in comparison. For 16 tracks, the quality is kept high. Roupe's "Somnambulism" sounds so very unlike anything else he did, and so narcotically fresh. Endemic Void does exactly what you think he would do, and turns in a very decent dnb tune. The Bowling Green creates a funky, forceful track that reflects the early promise he showed. And you've got to smile at Nonplace Urban Field's brief recognition of track they remix (Roupe's). Is it a 5 star album? Probably not. But there is enough diversity - and individual personality - reflected in these tracks to make you reach for it far more often then you'd think you would. It certainly has become one of my favorite albums.
It was a project of love and inspiration. Only regret that we did not manage to continue, and thus honour the concept. Thanks for your nice words Gurov.
