It was recorded as a concept album-inspired by the 2007 film of the same name-and was released on November 6, 2007, by Roc-A-Fella Records. Jay-Z originally stated he recorded nine tracks for the album, but the final track listing accumulated fifteen overall cuts (two bonus tracks). American Gangster" contains samples from the Curtis Mayfield recording "Short Eyes", written by Curtis Mayfield. This LP is easily twice as good as the rushed Kingdom Come, close to The Blueprint + on the same level as The Black Album. Reply Notify me 2 Helpful.

How good is American Gangster as an album? Jay and Nas absolutely kill the flow and it isn’t even the best track. For me that honor goes to "Fallin'," a track produced by No . where JAY-Z reflects on his past and concludes it’s only a matter of time before he meets his downfall; it’s the fate of any real hustler
