Robbie Hannan: uilleann pipes. A remarkable album of uilleann piping by one of the acknowledged contemporary masters of the instrument. From Co. Down, Hannan has developed an amazing command of the intricate "tight" (staccato) style of piping, which he puts to use here on a variety of tunes, many coming from the Donegal tradition of which he is fond. Hannan performs on a set of pipes pitched in B and made c. 1800 by one of the Kennas. Unaccompanied throughout.
An Irish traditional music recording with seventeen tracks. Robbie Hannan is a very capable player, however the playing on this particular album sounds hurried to the point of annoyance. I would have enjoyed it much more at a slower tempo. Is it just me, or does anyone else out there agree ? Posted by pennhorse 10 years ago. Yes! A wonderfully talented piper, but spoiled here, some, by the rush. Posted by ceolachan 5 years ago.
