The Time is the 1981 debut album by The Time. The album proper was produced and arranged by Prince (using the moniker Jamie Starr) The Time produced three singles: "Get It Up", "Cool" and "Girl", with the first two charting within the top ten on the R&B charts. Cool" was covered by Snoop Dogg for his ninth album, Ego Trippin'. The album was eventually certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales of over 500,000 copies in the United States.
The Time's third and final album before the band splintered into three different camps, Ice Cream Castle is yet another six-song offering highlighted by a cache of fantastic songs ("Ice Cream Castle," "Jungle Love," "The Bird") offset by some slight material (the Morris Day features "Chili Sauce" and "If the Kid Can't Make You Come". Ice Cream Castles and My Drawers were the final tracks recorded for the album in mid-January 1984. Other tracks recorded and considered for the album included My Summertime Thang, later released on The Time's fourth album Pandemonium) and Cloreen Bacon Skin were recorded in late March 1983. The latter was with Morris Day on drums, but it is not believed to have been intended for the album. Later tracks considered for the album include Chocolate (released on Pandemonium) and possibly My Love Belongs To You, both recorded in mid April 1983.
