Founded at the 1980 Salzburg Festival by members of the European Youth Chamber Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra of Europe made its first batch of recordings in 1986. Among them was this masterful coupling of Mozart 's serenades in C minor and E flat major for wind octet. Led by Budapest String Quartet violinist Alexander Schneider, the COE 's performances here are tight as a drum, deep as the ocean, high as the moon, and, the E flat major Serenade, more fun than a barrel of monkeys.
