Electric is the fourteenth studio album by Richard Thompson, released in 2013. The album was recorded in Buddy Miller's home in Nashville in May 2012. Thompson took his stripped down "electric trio" band (himself, bass player Taras Prodaniuk and drummer Michael Jerome) to the sessions. Miller produced, played some rhythm guitar parts and brought in some local players to augment the trio, notably Stuart Duncan and Siobhan Maher Kennedy.
Electric (CD, Album, Promo). referencing Electric, CD, Album, NW6270. A great album that suffers from a pretty bad pressing (even if New West Records boast about it being especially cut for vinyl) - lots of noise and a rather compressed sound throughout. A first press 1970s Richard and Linda album sounds way better. Reply Notify me 1 Helpful.

Richard Thompson is one of the few songwriters who can still invest the most pessimistic sentiments with a streak of bitter humour. Some of the songs on this amplified band set have been road-tested during the English bard’s solo acoustic travels. The sessions were recorded in Nashville, with guitarist Buddy Miller in the producer’s chair
If you are a fan of Richard Thompson, just hearing the title of his new album Electric should make you smile. If somehow you don’t know his music just listening to the first track Stony Ground will do the same thing. The song starts out with some clapping and percussion and then Richard Thompson and his Trio kick in to a song about Old Man Morris who’s fallen for the widow across the street ~ and can’t keep his mind off her Honey pot. Shakespeare? No. Tremendous fun? Yes. I hope that I can explain this, but the real treat of Electric is the overall sound of the record.
