Waves was the debut album by New Zealand folk-rock band Waves. It was released in 1975 and reached N. on the New Zealand album charts. The album, which became a sought-after collectors item on vinyl, was re-released in 2013 on vinyl and CD with a bonus disc, Misfit, a previously unreleased album recorded by the band in 1976. Three singles were taken from the album-"The Dolphin Song"/"Letters", "Arrow"/Clock House Shuffle" and "At the Beach"/Waitress".
New Wave music meant a lot of things in the late 1970s. It encompassed pretty much everything that followed the punk movement that still served as an alternative to mainstream pop and rock. There was power-pop, neo-psychedelia, acid-punk, art rock and lots and lots of keyboards. The college-radio boom of the ‘80s and indie rock of the 21st Century both owe a lot to the New Wave bands on this list. ensured the album wouldn’t be lost to history, when drummer Bill Berry proclaimed Pylon the best band in America. 35. Beam said this of Waves of Galveston during an 2018 interview with Jon Hart of KCPT radio in Kansas City: It’s an older one.
