I Could Live in Hope is the debut studio album by American indie rock band Low. It was released on February 18, 1994 on Vernon Yard Recordings. I Could Live in Hope inhabits a world of disquiet, like the lingering malaise of a bad dream, where a line as seemingly innocuous as She used to let me cut her hair feels ridden with shame and discomfort. Dream pop records often come steeped in instrumental flourishes and pillowy effects; on I Could Live in Hope, Low prove that small gestures can be transformative, too. –Ben Cardew. I hope this beautiful album never gets forgotten. It is such a shame that an album and band as good as this doesn't get played more often by more people. It's a shame that something like this would be forgotten as generations progress. I hope this beautiful album never gets forgotten. Find this Pin and more on 1975 Albums by Welcome to the Jungle.

IMHO, there's no way this lp is ~$130 better than the cd I bought in the 90's. Let's all get a grip here! It sounds just fine on cd.
life hack of the millenium: this CD can be purchased brand new & digipack shiny from the band's website for $15. https://merch.ambientinks.com/collections/low/products/i-could-live-in-hope-cd
Forgot to post this, but back in November I asked Low on twitter if there were any plans to repress "I Could Live In Hope" on vinyl, and they replied with this:"Maybe in the next year..." followed by a space invader emoji. https://twitter.com/lowtheband/status/1062965056684613634So just hold off on buying from the resellers for now. There's a decent chance that this album will get the 25th anniversary treatment.
Holding out for the record store day list! Maybe gold or something cool
Okay. I'm randomly just browsing through Discogs and I decided to check out Low and specific issues of their albums. My eyes almost bulged out of my head over the fact I see this going for at thew lowest (no pun intended) of $130 to $180!I bought this years over five years ago at an HMV for around $35 or just a little over!
SAME. I bought it for like $25 at Jackpot Records in Portland years back. I didn't know until I showed a friend my Discogs collection and he flipped over the price of this. It's the most valuable record I own.
Anyone have a copy floating around? Looking to scoop this lovely record.
Ok so it came. This pressing is absolutely fine, sounds great. I have a good cart and can't notice what people say about the S's in slide. very worth picking up. Score 1 for Plain records, just 1 tho.
Global Progression
is the fact it's the only record Plain didn't mess up the reason the prices are so high these days? would love a copy of this but definitely not willing to drop $100+. would be great if there was another pressing in the future.
Does anyone know how many pressings they made of this album?
as far as plain recordings go, this one isn't too bad.
Aside from the sibilance issue on "Slide", the rest of the album actually sounds pretty good on my setup. This is the only Plain record I've heard that doesn't sound like total garbage. Glad I picked it up new for $24 seeing as it's going for $100+ these days.
My copy is super clean - I have had no issues.
Cherry The Countess
I gather that most fans of this album purchased it when it came out. I've only just now discovered it, unfortunately. It's like somebody set out to deliberately make a depressing album. I do like the warm atmosphere, but the music slowly plods along with little variation. Every track sounds the same. The instrumentation is sparse, with a preponderance of ride cymbal. Mournful male/female vocals haunt each song until, by the third track, you just can't take it anymore. I could see this being played in a coffee shop back then, but it would have driven away most customers.Unless you're reliving your depressed glory days of the 1990s (when you really had nothing to be depressed about), avoid this.
I can't even imagine that somebody write comment like this... Magic & beautiful album.
you have bad taste. we don't care about your opinion of the band only the quality of the record
If I don't like Mick Jagger's voice it would be useless to write a review about any Rolling Stones CD. Same here - this review is completely useless since the author is complaining about aspects characteristical for the band in general, like sparse instrumentation etc..
"avoid this" the worst commentary ever, whether to be said about music or any other thing in life. ALWAYS try it and decide for yourself. for me the record is stunning as well, my favourite from Low. I will hopefully return to my message a few years later and check if I have a new favourite from them.
Cannot disagree more - it's a stunning record.
Mine actually sounds great - though the 's'es are a bit harsh on 'Slide' and there is one place where the sounds is slightly 'compressed' (typical of when a CD-master or a plain bad mastering has been used for the vinyl version), but nothing too serious I'd say. The running time for side 1 is only around 17 minutes, so that shouldn't be the culprit. But considering the price, I do think they could have done better! But hot dang it's a great record; all in all I'd say it was worth waiting for a vinyl version!
Is this a cd-master?
Considering the rather high price (33 €!!) one could have wished that they would have added a more vinyl-friendly track list (though that would have meant altering the original CD-artwork slightly) and adding some better inner sleeves than the ones supplied...
There is some distortion on the song "Slide" I wish plain would remaster their stuff
Agreed, after the Loveless re-issue I'm done with Plain. I'll just enjoy my ICLIH CD forever.
I agree. I have held off on buying this because all of their stuff sounds so bad.
