From the Witchwood is the fourth album by English band Strawbs. It was recorded at Air Studios, London during February and March 1971 and reached number 39 in the UK Album Charts. The album is the third and final album to include Rick Wakeman, including his appearance as a session musician on the 1970 album Dragonfly. All tracks written by Dave Cousins, except where noted.
From the Witchwood" marked the start of the Strawbs transition in earnest from a primarily acoustic folk based band, to a prog rock orientated band with strong folk influences. The album represents Rick Wakeman's last venture with the Strawbs, before he was headhunted by Yes. In retrospect, his keyboard skills whilst apparent, were somewhat suppressed in the Strawbs, with only brief displays of his virtuosity such as those on "Sheep" and "Glimpse of heaven". It was perhaps inevitable that when the opportunity arose, he would move on to a band where he would.
From The Witchwood (LP, Album, RE). A&M Records. Great progressive album by UK prog folk classic rock band. It is also the key transition point between the group's folk rock roots to the more prog folk direction which fits well with the old YES, GENESIS, KING CRIMSON. This great album was produced by Tony Visconti and it features Dave Cousins and Rick Wakemen (just before he departed to join YES). Reply Notify me Helpful.
