Entre Nil Et Gange - Hussein El Masry. Clocking in at just under an hour, this album features a duet between Egypt's Hussein el Masry on 'oud and Narendra Bataju on sitar, accompanied by tabla, riqq and duff. Although there is only one track on this CD, in the mode of Maqam Shahnaz, it is an excellent purchase. El Masry is cautious to adhere to the traditions of Classical Arabic music, but still innovative. Together with Bataju (a pupil of the great Ravi Shankar), they create a masterpiece that combines the intellectual traditions of the Indian subcontinent with those of the Arab world

Music that transports the listener to the imaginary confluence of two rivers and the magical confluence two musical cultures. Hussein el-Masry was born in Cairo, Egypt in 1952 and is a one of the great oud players, composers and singers. Here he is accompanied by sitar player Narenda Bataju, a pupil of Ravi Shankar. and percussionists Adel Shams el-Din on riqq and daff and Hanif Khan.
