The Artist Formerly Known as Prince (TAFKAP). In 1993, while in a contractual dispute with Warner Bros. he changed his stage name to an unpronounceable symbol ( ), also known as the "Love Symbol," and began releasing new albums at a faster rate to remove himself from contractual obligations. He released five records between 1994 and 1996 before signing with Arista Records in 1998. Prince was set to release the album with a monochromatic black cover with only the catalog number printed, but after 500,000 copies had been pressed, Prince had a spiritual epiphany that the album was evil and had it recalled. It was later released by Warner Bros. Prince went back in the studio for eight weeks and recorded Lovesexy.

Prince Rogers Nelson (better known as Prince) (June 7, 1958 – April 21, 2016) was an American musician. He was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was known for blending erotic lyrics with funk rock and technology. He had ten platinum albums and thirty Top 40 singles during his career. His releases have sold over 80 million copies worldwide. From 1993 to 2000, Prince changed his name to a symbol looking something like this: O(+

The unpronounceable symbol is an alias used by Prince from June 7 1993 to May 16 2000 - he changed his stage name to the symbol which is a combination of the symbols for male (♂) and female (♀). Because the symbol is unpronounceable, he's often referred by others as "The Symbol", "The Artist Formerly Known as Prince"
