Punk rock started in 1976 on New York’s Bowery, when four cretins from Queens came up with a mutant strain of blitzkrieg bubblegum. Dead Kennedys' debut LP is the ultimate hardcore comedy album, with singer Jello Biafra playing Johnny Rotten as goofball satirist on songs like "California Über Alles" and "Holiday in Cambodia. Fueled by the band's technically sharp guitarist, "East Bay" Ray Pepperell, Fresh Fruit also had more musical fire than contemporary efforts by similarly over-the-top hardcore shock-rockers like Fear or the Adolescents.
Unlike Dookie, which was more pop punk, this album has a sound which will not be forgotten. Panic Song, which defines the band in the early 1990s, when they used drugs to not have panic attacks during shows and the classic Brain Stew. This should be This is a better overall album than everything else, but I agree that Ramones is a better punk album. And how is the green day album that I have just accepted will always be here not even there best album? You people don't even know how to mess up right. One of the greatest albums of all time.
Consider tracks like "Punk Is Dead" and "Do They Owe Us a Living" serve as essential gateways into the Crass universe. In the case of the Cramps, that subgenre was psychobilly, a swampy, spooky middle ground between rockabilly and punk that is clearly on display on Bad Music for Bad People. Featuring classics like black-on-black smash hits "Human Fly," "I Can't Hardly Stand It" and "New Kind of Kick," the compilation LP is a perfect cross-section of what the goth- and kitsch-obsessed NYC weirdos were up to, and what made them so groundbreaking and essential.

So this is more a collection of tracks from that era with the emphasis on Punk. But it is good value- I got mine for a quid! The other good news is that there is a volume 2 well worth a look. So here it is. If you spot any typos.

It could mean music that was more complex or more stripped down than punk, catchier or noisier. Or, when you talk about Mission of Burma, almost all of those things at once. Vs., the only album they released during the 1980s, before reuniting in the 21st century, is punk rock as wall of noise, with Roger Miller’s guitar and Martin Swope’s tape effects washing over Clint Conley’s melodic basslines and Peter Prescott’s complex drum patterns. It’s a furious sound that’s both passionate and cerebral, and a pivotal influence on some of the best underground guitar rock of the last 30 years. I’d go see The Feelies at CBGB right after their debut album Crazy Rhythms and watch the crowd of other young musicians react to the melding of driving bass and drums with experimental guitar, a sound that would help inspire some of the best New Wave, gothic rock and jangly college rock.
Music is moving fast but there is one band that is ahead of the game. It was a time when nuclear war seemed to be more than a bad nightmare and a horrible reality, a time when Britain still looked shabby and the charts were still full of shite. It wasn’t for no reason at all that The Stranglers were dressing in black- these were dark times, there was a pessimism and a cynicism in the air the Stranglers caught this flavour in their new set of songs. I’d make a case for Siouxsie’s The Scream as being the first ‘post punk’ album.
