Chet Atkins made countless recordings as a studio musician, producer and solo artist. Many of his rly those of the artists he produced in Nashville, like Elvis Presley, Roy Orbison and the Everly Brothers-laid the foundation for early rock and roll. Though Atkins played many styles, he is most often associated with country music and acoustic guitars. By using a combination of thumbpick and fingers, Chet created his signature fingerpicking sound. This month, I’m going to look at two patented Chet Atkins techniques. FIGURE 1 shows an approach Atkins often used when playing.

Chet Atkins' Gallopin' Guitar is the first studio album released by American guitarist Chet Atkins on the RCA Victor label (see 1953 in music). Atkins had previously recorded on Bullet Records and also as a sideman with various acts. He was brought to RCA by Steve Sholes in 1947. After playing on a variety of radio shows, Radio manager Si Simon had been promoting Atkins by sending acetates of Chet's live radio performances to various record companies

The Guitar Genius is an album by American guitarist Chet Atkins, released in 1963. It was reissued on CD in 1999. It was also reissued on CD along with And His Guitar in 2004. Five vocal tracks by Atkins' brother Jim were from an unreleased 1958 album to be titled My Brother Sings. That album as later released in 2015.

The Guitar Genius is one strange album - good, but strange - beginning with its title. Of course there's plenty of guitar here, but there's also a surprising number of pieces that rely on vocals. It opens up with Chet Atkins' delightfully bluesy instrumental rendition of "Heartbreak Hotel," a song on whose original recording session with Elvis Presley he played - he adds enough wrinkles of his own to it to make it work as an instrumental

The guitars referred to are Atkins' signature Gretsch "Country Gentleman" electric guitar, a Brazilian Del Vecchio (guitar maker) resonator guitar presented to him by Los Indios Tabajaras, and a Spanish Juan Estruch classical guitar, all visible on the LP cover photo. It is another example of Atkins' 1960s easy-going, easy-listening guitar playing.
